UK Dog Wheelchair Charities

Is your dog struggling with mobility issues and you're looking to try something new? Dog wheelchairs can be a great option, whether temporary, whilst they recover, or permanently to allow more freedom in their everyday lives.

Dog wheels can be used for a wide variety of conditions but are mainly utilised for spinal diseases such as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) or degenerative myelopathy (DM), for weakness or the loss of back leg use.

It's best to talk to your vet or physio to discuss if wheels would be suitable for your dog. We (Wrekin Vet Physio) would also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Wheelchairs can be expensive, especially for sturdy, good quality wheels needed for some larger dogs. Thankfully, there are several brilliant charities that hire out wheelchairs for dogs in need. We've listed some UK based dog wheelchair charities that may be able to help:

Pumpkin and Friends

Pumpkin and Friends is one of the largest dog wheelchair charities. Pumpkin is a Westie who had her spine broken and now uses wheels to get around.

For a loan, they only require a postage fee and regular pupdates of your dog.

Winstons wheels

Winstons Wheels is also one of the largest dog wheelchair charities. It was started after Winston developed a tumour that affected his hindlimbs and he was given wheels to help improve his quality of life.

They offer free loans and only require regular picture or video updates.

Broken Biscuits

Broken Biscuits is a charity that has been running for 14 years to help rehabilitate dogs.

Peppa's Place

Peppa’s Place is a Facebook only charity so check out their Facebook and give them a message if you are interested. They offer loans for wheelchairs and advice and support.

Pick ‘n’ Mix Cause for Paws

Pick ‘n’ Mix Cause for Paws are another charity with Facebook only. They offer loans of strollers which can be a useful alternative to wheels.

Good luck on your rehab journey!
